I have a couple of Squire Stagemasters with serial numbers like CY981111xx. Martin they are not when it comes to serial numbers. Tony Bacon may know but it's not in his book and he's not saying either.Įxceptions to this abound in the Squier world. They are fearful of counterfeiting (rightly so). I have tried many times to get Fender to tell me how the model and color are embedded and they won't say. Embedded in the last 6 digits are the model & color and the sequence number the guitar was made in that month. The next two digits are the year made, the next 2 are the month in the year made.

The initials identify the country & factory (maybe).

Here's my birth year… actually my CY 2014…Ĭontact Fender Customer service and they will tell you all about it (email would be best as they can put you on hold for a long time. As with anything a human uses it's all ultimately down to personal taste and preferences but for me they're a fabulous strat.

I have two Affinities from the Yako plant in Taiwan that I've modded into tributes to a birth year strat and Blackmore's '68 maple cap… that modded massively (Fender 'F' neck plate w serial number engraved on it and all the txt removed from the back of the h/s, Fender MIM bridge, block & saddles, Fender 'F tuners, Fender MIA Highway One fully loaded guard w staggered pole Alnico pups and an Ernie Ball 5 way switch with a bone nut) and the birth year one only with the bits I took off my VM when I upgraded that.Fender stamped saddles and 'Kluson style vintage tuners.Ĭan be great guitars. I'm in agreement about the pups, great sounding for what they are. If you ever want to mod anything you'll find out as you play it. If the feel of a guitar is right to you everything about the sound can be altered really. the necks feel chunky compared to my VM70) then just carry on. If you like the body and neck combo (I do. They can be great guitars to mod now even with the thinner body because you can get 'shallower' but still full mass blocks designed to mod them with and as with any other strat everything else is 'switchable' anyway and the cost entry point is so low for what can be great quality.
